What kind of scholarships are available?

There are two types of scholarships available to dependents and spouses of military members stationed at Langley.

1. One is for graduating high school seniors.

2. The other is for spouses who are not members of the Langley OSC.

Who may apply for the LOSC scholarships?

1. Applicants must be high school graduates or equivalent and plan to attend an accredited college or university during the upcoming academic school year.

2. As of March 15, 2007, in the selection year of 2007-08, the applicant must be the non-military spouse (or widow/ widower) of one of the following:

a. Active duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces stationed at Langley AFB.

b. Active duty reservist of the U.S. Armed Forces stationed at Langley AFB for at least 9 months.

c. Retired or deceased Air Force member residing in the local area.

d. Active duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces on a remote assignment from Langley AFB.

e. Active duty Air Force member stationed at the US Joint Forces Command.

3. Applicants accepting service academy appointments, full ROTC, or full college/ university scholarships are not eligible.

4. Applicants are NOT permitted to be an LOSC member.

How much is awarded with these scholarships?

The amounts vary year to year as do the number given.  It all depends on fund raising monies gathered by March.

Are these scholarships annual or for four years?

The scholarships are for one year.

How may the scholarship be used?

All funds received shall be applied to tuition and/or associated university costs administered by an accredited college or university.  These costs may include books, fees, room or board but may not be used for penalties or disenrollment fees.

When is the form due?

The form and other documents are due no later than March 15, 2008.

Whom do I contact if I have more questions?

Please contact our Scholarship Committee Chairman, Anne Guest.
