Do I have to volunteer for anything? |
| |
Our primary goal is to serve the Langley AFB community, as well as supporting local and national charities, we always have plenty of opportunities for volunteering. Families of military members often feel that volunteering helps them establish ties with their community and gives them a sense of belonging. With that said, membership in the OSC never obligates you to volunteer.
- Our primary fundraisers are large multi-day craft shows.
- Our scholarship committee, which awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to dependents of military members of Langley AFB.
- Participation in the OSC's annual sponsoring of the Airmen's Dinner in May.
- Operation Cookie Drop during Christmas, which brings homemade cookies to those Airmen who can't go home to spend time with their families over the holidays.
- Serving on the OSC Board, with positions in either the welfare or social side.
Whether you choose to volunteer or not, just being a member of the OSC means you are contributing to the strength of the group. We hope you'll join us. |

Do I have to attend the social events?
|
| |
Once a month, the OSC sponsors a social event for all members. While we would love to have you, you are never obligated to attend any social function or event. |
| |
|
Do you provide child care facilities for your events? |
| |
The Child Development Center (CDC) will provide childcare for LOSC daytime functions only at the Childcare Development Center. This wonderful service allows you the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy the great LOSC functions while your children delight in a safe and fun environment with trained childcare professionals. Please read our web page on CDC Childcare Policies for LOSC Functions. We also have a link to their web page if you need full-time childcare.

| |
|
Why do I have to pay for social functions if I paid my dues?
|
| |
By law, we may never use money from our welfare fundraisers (like the Craft Show) to pay for our social events. The annual membership dues are used to pay for special entertainment (i.e., disc jockeys, live bands), door prizes and decorations at our social functions. The fee for the socials is simply payment for the meal served at that event. |

Why can't I view your newsletters and scholarship documents? |
| |
These documents are in a file format called Portable Document Format (PDF) developed by the Adobe Corp. A plug-in for your browser called Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 5.1 and later) must be used to view and print these documents. You can obtain this plug-in reader from Adobe Corp. |
| |
|
Why do you use PDF documents instead of a standard web page or word processing document? |
| |
First, it is very difficult to replicate complex documents in a standard web page and have them display and print the same in the variety of browsers in use today - especially in the way the author intended.
Secondly, these files will not spread viruses thereby being the safest way to view and print documents that have the authors font, image placement, and pagination requirements. |
